MAX IV is developing MAX 4U with and for its user community.
As an initial step in broad engagement with the user community, the first draft MAX 4U Science Case was presented in January 2026 at the User Meeting and is available on this webpage.

The MAX 4U Science Case continues to be developed by the Science Division throughout 2026 with direct input from and dialogue with the user community.
Contribute to the Science Case
We encourage contributions and feedback through workshops, our User Meeting, and direct engagement with the MAX 4U Science Section Leads, beamline teams, and advisory committees (such as the Science Advisory Committee and the University Reference Group).
For the MAX 4U Science Case document, we are seeking “focused contributions” from the user community. These contributions should generally be no longer than half a page and must provide detailed descriptions of specific scientific examples that would benefit from MAX 4U. These submissions will be developed in collaboration with the Science Section Leads.
A couple of them will be featured in the final version of the document. The ones that are not selected will be available as a digital archive.

Community input for one new beamline funded by MAX 4U
The community will also be invited to submit expressions of interest for the new beamline funded by the MAX 4U project. More details will be provided later on our website and communicated to our user base when they become available.
