Call for proposals

MAX IV opens Calls for proposals twice per year for the User Science Programme. The calls are named according to their beamtime period, not when the call itself opens.

Fast Access operates with a rolling call intended for projects that require quick access to beamtime, for a short time.

How beamtime calls & cycles are split:

Please note that at the end of 2026, MAX IV will update the cycles to align with the calendar year.
This means that the Fall26 Cycle will end on Dec 31st (Please see the Machine Operation Schedule for shutdown dates) instead of including January and February of 2027. This means that the cycle will be shorter than previous Fall cycles.

Spring Cycle:

Call opens: September
Approx. Beamtime period:

March – August

January – June

Fall Cycle:

Call opens: February
Approx. Beamtime period:

Fall26: September – December

Future cycles: July – December

*LTP at FinEstBeAMS and FlexPES are for the area of Low Density Matter (LDM), and making use of Single Bunch (SB). If you have any doubt about whether your idea would be within scope, please contact MAX IV staff for clarification.

Please note that while MAX IV tries to follow announced schedules, the need might arise to adjust the scope of upcoming calls due to unforeseeable circumstances.

Published call results

In order to increase transparency towards our funders and user community, MAX IV management has decided to publish the proposer name and affiliation, and starting from Spring24, the full title of the proposal, for all proposals accepted through the User Science Programme. Prior to Spring26 the Main Proposer’s surname and affiliation were listed. From Spring26 onwards, the Principal Investigator’s last name and affiliation are listed.
