Hub Access enables research communities to address complex scientific challenges through coordinated, long-term use of MAX IV capabilities.
A Hub brings together independent research groups working towards a shared scientific objective. By coordinating experimental activities and sharing expertise, knowledge, data, and results within the Hub, participants can build on each other’s work and adapt their research programme as new findings emerge.
Hub Access also enables the strategic use of complementary capabilities across MAX IV and provides greater continuity than individual beamtime proposals. This can support ambitious research programmes in areas where sustained collaboration and access to advanced experimental capabilities can accelerate scientific and societal impact.
The Hub model is based on active collaboration and a clear added value compared with conducting the research through separate Standard proposals. Participating groups are therefore expected to contribute to the collective research programme and to the exchange of knowledge and results within the Hub.
MAX IV Hub Pilot: BatMAX
MAX IV is currently piloting the Hub Access mode together with BatMAX, a Hub collaboration focused on battery technology. As this is an ongoing pilot, we are not currently accepting additional Hub applications. Read more about BatMAX here.

Submission
The call for Standard Access proposals opens twice a year; to check when the next call opens see our Call for proposals page. The Hub access will follow the same call and cycle setup.

Requirements
As part of being granted beamtime at MAX IV, any results from an experiment at MAX IV that are published must include mandatory acknowledgement. The correct acknowledgement is available on our User policies page.
Users are granted beamtime through open access in accordance with MAX IV Terms & Conditions.
- No charge for beamtime.
- Users pay for consumables exceeding a predefined amount.

Users are required to submit an Experimental Report no later than three months after an experiment, in accordance with MAX IV Terms & Conditions.
