Getting to MAX IV Laboratory

Getting to MAX IV Laboratory from Copenhagen International Airport by train  to Lund C takes about 40 minutes. Please note that there are passport controls when entering Sweden.

The closest airport is Sturup Malmö Airport. From Sturup, there are coaches (“Flygbussarna“) to Lund. The trip takes about 35 minutes.

Lund University has an agreement with Ringduvetaxi AB.

The laboratory is located only a short ride by taxi or bus from Lund C. Click on the links below to find more information about trains to Lund C. The green city bus no. 20 stops directly outside the facility. It leaves every 10–20 minutes from Clemenstorget just opposite Lund C.

MAX IV is located in the northeast part of Lund, close to the motorways E22 and E6.

Parking

Parking fees apply throughout the year from 07.00 to 18.00. If you do not hold a parking permit issued by Lund University, you need to pay at the parking meter or by using the Parkster app. Single day tickets can also be purchased at the MAX IV Reception for SEK 25, payment by card only.
Parking is only possible at the designated parking zone where it is clearly marked on the ground.
You may be liable to pay an inspection fee if your vehicle remains parked for more than 24 consecutive hours or the parking area is used for so-called residential parking.

Visits for schools

MAX IV is open to visits by school groups on Thursdays. The visit includes a tour of the lab.

  • The tour is approximately 1 hour long and may include walking around 800 m
  • Please note that the time for the visit is approximate, so transport must be flexible to pick up earlier or later
  • The laboratory is a fully accessible facility
  • Maximum group size 30
  • Minimum age 15 years old
  • The group must be accompanied by a teacher

Visits for the general public

The laboratory is only open to visits by the general public at our open day, which is organised on the culture night in Lund in the middle of September every year. Other times we refer to our visitor centre MAXESS. Learn more about how to book your visit at MAXESS in the next section below.

 

Visit MAXESS – our visitor centre

MAXESS is our external visitor centre and accommodates organisations and the general public. At the centre, you are able to learn not only about MAX IV Laboratory but also about the European Spallation Source ERIC and Science Village Scandinavia.

  • The visitor centre is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 09.00–17.00 for pre-booked groups
  • Group size minimum 10, and maximum 30 people
  • A typical visit takes around an hour and includes an introduction and a walk around our exhibition with one of our student guides
  • Please note that the time for the visit is approximate, so transport must be flexible to pick up earlier or later
  • The visit is free of charge

Getting to MAXESS visitor centre

Bus no 20 is leaving from Clemenstorget just across Lund Central station every 10 min, the bus stop is the last on the route, called ESS. Please note that there is a 500 meter walk from the bus stop to the visitor centre.

There is a parking lot at the MAXESS visitor center as well.
