Postdoc positions for research projects connected to MAX IV open now

 

The faculties of science and engineering of Lund university have funded a total of nine new positions for postdoctoral fellows. The research projects are closely connected to research at and development of MAX IV experimental stations. Several of the postdoc positions are open for applications now.

One of the projects, connected to beamlines Bloch and Veritas, will be aimed at probing the mineral perovskite’s electronic properties. Perovskite is of interest, for example, as an energy material.

We plan to investigate materials where both the resonant inelastic X-ray scattering and the angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy methods will help us. Both BLOCH and VERITAS are amazing instruments. I am looking forward to successful experiments, says project leader professor Elizabeth Blackburn at the department of synchrotron radiation research.

Developing and pushing the capabilities of the MAX IV beamlines is a big part of this project. We plan to work and improve the spin-resolved ARPES capabilities at Bloch, and perhaps implement spin-polarised STM measurements on the branchline, to be available for all future users, Blackburn continues. The new postdoc will develop their expertise with these experimental techniques and work on technique development, together with the existing beamline teams.

A project that is already interviewing applicants will focus on zink’s role in the mineralisation of bone. The project will be localised to the NanoMAX and SoftiMAX beamlines.

We have recently shown that zinc is connected to the mineralisation of bone in embryonic development. Now, we want to continue the research to understand if this is the case for all mineralisation, also later in life after fractures, for example, says project leader professor Hanna Isaksson at the department of biomedical engineering. The postdoc will strengthen the competence in the X-ray fluorescence method at NanoMAX och SoftiMAX. The main task will be to develop analysis tools and create an automatised, intuitive pipeline for sample analysis, primarily aimed at users from the area of life science.
