1. Purpose of the MAX4MINT project

The MAX4MINT project aims at increasing students’ choice of MINT (STEM) topics: mathematics, engineering, natural science and technology.

This MAX IV initiative, to reach out grundskola students in year eight, before they chose  specialisation for upper secondary school, had received limited funding from VR (Diarienummer: 2020-00430).

 

2. Scope of the MAX4MINT project

  • Facilitate a visit to MAX IV for 8th grade students from Skåne grundskola.
  • The schools are offered travel support to the extent that the financing allows.
  • The number of students per visiting group would vary according to resources availability. The aim is to receive between 20 and 30 students per class.
  • The number of invited groups will be determined by the facility resources.
  • The selected candidates representing a good geographical distribution

 

3. How to participate in the MAX4MINT activity?

Each interested 8th grade teacher should register the preliminary available dates for the class to visit MAX IV.

The eligible schools, according to the MAX4MINT grant, would be invited on a first-come first-in basis.

 

4. What implies to be engaged in a MAX4MINT visit to MAX IV?

The program for each invited group/class includes:

  1. Preliminary conversations between the teacher and MAX IV.
  2. The teacher introduces MAX IV to the student. For example using some of the material/videos available from MAX IV.
  3. A few days before the 8th grade class visits Lund, MAX IV students will visit the school. This will be a short pre-visit of about 45 minutes to each 8th grade class. The purpose is to introduce visit to MAX IV and create an atmosphere that encourages the students to be curious about the Synchrotron light at MAX IV.
  4. After the pre-visit the 8th grade teachers can determine which students will be visiting Lund.
  5. A visit to MAX IV can vary between 2 and 3 hours. During the visit the group is divided in smaller groups. Each subgroup will be accompanied at all times with one MAX IV host.
  6. Each subgroup will participate in few stand’s activities (magnetism, vacuum, the synchrotron user game,…) and on a guided tour around the experimental hall meeting the infrastructure experts.
  7. Feedback on the visit experience, outcomes and follow up.
